On the 100 GB this index prices, Decodo comes to $275 against Bright Data's $400, because Decodo publishes a plan at exactly that volume and Bright Data's nearest published route is its no-commitment rate. Both advertise a low headline that needs a four-figure monthly commitment: $2 a GB at $2,000 a month for Decodo, $2.50 at $1,999 for Bright Data. Both verified on each provider's own pages on August 7, 2026. Two things to carry: Decodo states its figures before VAT and Bright Data does not, and Decodo is the company that used to trade as Smartproxy, which its own page title still records.

The gap at this volume is $125 a month, or $1,500 a year. It comes from a difference in shape rather than a difference in generosity: Decodo publishes a tier at exactly 100 GB and Bright Data's tier table steps from 141 GB upward, so a buyer of 100 GB at Bright Data either pays its no-commitment rate or buys more than they need. Both are real choices and this index takes the cheaper one.

Decodo's page opens with “Easy-to-integrate residential proxies starting at just $2/GB”, and that rate is not on the tier table a buyer sees first. It belongs to an enterprise tier the page prices at $2,000 a month for 1000 GB. The cheapest rate in the regular view is $2.75 a GB. Decodo does something useful here that most of this category does not: it publishes the enterprise tiers rather than hiding them behind a form, which is exactly what makes the headline checkable.
The two things that change the arithmetic
First, tax. Every Decodo figure is stated before VAT — its own tier cards read “3 GB $ 3.75 / GB Total: $ 11.25 + VAT billed monthly” — and Bright Data's carry no equivalent note. Second, the no-commitment rate. Both vendors sell it and at both it is the most expensive way to buy: Decodo's is $4 a GB, which is 2.0 times its own best tier rate and dearer than every committed tier it sells including the smallest. Bright Data's is $4 a GB, 1.6 times its best. Buying without committing costs more in this category, not less, and neither vendor pretends otherwise.
