Is monday.com Worth It?

It depends on one thing you can check before paying: whether you need automations, integrations or a timeline view. monday.com's cheapest paid tier, Basic at $12 per seat a month, carries none of them; its card adds unlimited items and unlimited free viewers to the free tier and little else. The tier that carries the things people usually buy work management for is Standard at $14 per seat, which lists “Automations (250 actions / month)” and “Timeline & Gantt views”. Two facts change the arithmetic: monday.com states “Plans start from 3 users.”, so the floor is $36 a month however small your team, and at a team of 5 it is the 3rd cheapest of the 8 tools in this index, $30 a month more than Trello at the top of the list. We have not tested the product and make no claim about how well it works.

The most useful comparison here is Free against Basic, because it is the one that decides whether $12 a seat buys you anything. Free lists Up to 2 seats, Up to 3 boards, Up to 3 Docs, 200+ templates, 8 column types, iOS and Android apps. Basic adds Unlimited free viewers, Unlimited items, Basic AI: 3 tools · 1,000 AI credits / month. So the honest summary of the first paid step is that it removes the board, doc and seat caps and adds an AI credit allowance. It does not add automations, integrations, a calendar view, guest access or a timeline.
The tier most people are actually shopping for
If automations and a timeline view are why you are looking at work-management software at all, Standard at $14 per seat month-to-month ($12 annually) is the real entry price, not Basic. That is not unusual: of the 6 tools in this index whose pricing pages name a timeline or Gantt view, 2 gate it above their own cheapest paid tier and 4 include it at the entry price (Asana, ClickUp, Airtable and Smartsheet). What Standard does not carry is volume: its automation allowance is 250 actions a month, and the jump to 25,000 is Pro at $24 a seat.

What it costs against the alternatives, at the same team size
Price is only one axis and the cheapest tool is not automatically the right one. But it is the axis that can be checked, so here it is: for a team of 5 paying month to month, monday.com is 3 of 8 at $60 a month, against $30 for Trello at the top of the list. The gap is $30 a month, or $360 a year.

Below three people the answer changes, and not in monday.com's favour. The three-seat minimum means a team of 2 pays $36 a month for 3 seats, which puts it 7 of 8 at that size. It is also the point at which the free tiers matter: Trello, monday.com, Asana, ClickUp, Notion, Airtable and Basecamp all publish a free tier that a team of 2 fits inside.
What we cannot tell you
- Whether monday.com is pleasant to use, quick to set up, or well supported. We have not tested it, and no pricing page can answer that.
- Whether the per-seat rate changes with team size. We read every figure at monday.com's default of 10 seats. Its page lets you change that number and we did not verify what happens when you do, so we make no claim either way.
- How long the AI-credit discount lasts. monday.com shows the credit line at a stated price and a Special monthly discount cancelling it, and says nothing about when that ends.
- What monday.com costs above forty users, because it stops publishing a figure there and quotes instead.
- Whether it is worth it for you. That depends on which tier you need and how many people are on the team, and both of those are set out above so you can do the sum yourself.

It makes no claim about which tool is easier to use, faster to set up, better supported or nicer to look at, because those are not things a pricing page can establish and we have not tested them.

For up to two people doing up to three boards, possibly. monday.com describes it as "monday.com has a free plan of monday work management which is ideal for freelancers and individual professionals." and its card caps it at two seats, three boards and three docs, with AI features stated as available from Basic. Past any of those caps the next step is Basic at $12 a seat, and because monday.com states "Plans start from 3 users.", the smallest paid bill is $36 a month.
Is monday.com Basic or Standard better value?
That depends entirely on whether you need automations or a timeline view, because Basic has neither. Standard's card lists "Automations (250 actions / month)" and "Timeline & Gantt views". Month to month that is $14 a seat against $12, a difference of $2 a seat a month, or $120 a year for a team of 5.
Is monday.com expensive compared to other work management tools?

Does monday.com charge for people who are not using it?
Effectively yes, below three people, and it says so: "Plans start from 3 users." A two-person team is billed for three seats. Above three the minimum stops applying. monday.com does also include unlimited free viewers from Basic, so read-only people do not add to the count.
Can you pay monday.com monthly?
Yes, and it is more expensive: "The monthly plan is not discounted so if you are looking to save, we recommend the yearly plan." On its own two published figures the month-to-month premium on Basic is 33%. monday.com also states separately how the committed term is collected: "Payment is made in one upfront installment. If you purchase a plan for one year, you will pay for one year upfront."
