monday.com vs ClickUp
Updated August 6, 2026· every figure checked against the vendor’s own pricing page
ClickUp is cheaper at both team sizes we price. For 2 people it is $20 a month against monday.com's $36; for 5 it is $50 against $60. All verified on each vendor's own pricing page on August 6, 2026. It also includes more at the entry price: ClickUp's cheapest paid tier lists “Unlimited Gantt Charts”, while monday.com's Basic carries no timeline or Gantt view at all and its Standard tier is $14 a seat. The two constrain seats differently rather than one being freer: monday.com states “Plans start from 3 users.”, and ClickUp states “To upgrade ClickUp, you'll need to upgrade your entire Workspace, which means all members in your Workspace.” ClickUp also prices its AI as a second per-seat subscription, so the headline seat rate is not the whole per-seat cost if you want it.
RangeYourself has no affiliate relationship with any tool on this page as of August 6, 2026: every link here goes straight to the vendor’s own site and earns us nothing. We may pursue one in this category, and if we do we will say so here. Either way the ordering follows published prices and each vendor’s own stated seat rules, and a vendor that pays nothing is listed on exactly the same basis as one that does. The two seat rules, which are not the same problem
monday.com's rule sets a floor on the bill: “Plans start from 3 users.” A two-person team pays for three seats and that is the end of it. ClickUp's rule sets a floor on the scope: “To upgrade ClickUp, you'll need to upgrade your entire Workspace, which means all members in your Workspace.” There is no minimum number of seats, but you cannot put two people on a paid tier and leave the rest of a larger workspace on the free one. Which of those costs more depends entirely on how many people are already in the workspace, and neither vendor publishes a figure that settles it for you.
There is a third number on ClickUp's page that is easy to miss. It runs a separate AI pricing block with its own billing toggle and its own per-seat prices, listing Brain AI, a second per-seat subscription and AI Super Credits. monday.com instead bundles an AI credit allowance into each tier and shows it as a line item that a current discount cancels. Both are real costs; they are simply presented differently, and we have not priced either AI product into the tables above because neither vendor treats it as part of the seat.
What each one gates behind which tier
| Tool | Automations start on | Timeline or Gantt starts on | That tier per seat |
|---|---|---|---|
| monday.com | Standard “Automations (250 actions / month)” | Standard “Timeline & Gantt views” | $14 month to month, $12 annually |
| ClickUp | Free Forever “5 Active Rules, 100 Automation executions,” | Unlimited “Unlimited Gantt Charts” | $10 month to month, $7 annually |
ClickUp publishes numeric automation allowances at every tier including the free one, from “5 Active Rules,” on Free Forever up to 5,000 executions a month on Business. monday.com starts its automations at Standard with “Automations (250 actions / month)”. So on this axis ClickUp gives a small team something at zero and monday.com gives it nothing until the second paid tier.
This page compares what each vendor publishes about price, seat rules and which tier carries which capability. It makes no claim about which tool is easier to use, faster to set up, better supported or nicer to look at, because those are not things a pricing page can establish and we have not tested them.
Free tiers, which are not comparable
ClickUp's free tier states “Unlimited Free Plan Members” and caps storage at 60MB instead. monday.com's caps the people: “Up to 2 seats”. For a small team that is the single biggest practical difference between the two products at zero dollars, and it is the reason a growing team hits monday.com's paywall much sooner.
Worth saying plainly, because it shapes what you are reading: RangeYourself currently has no affiliate relationship with any tool on this page, and every vendor link here goes straight to the vendor’s own site. If that changes, this line changes with it. Either way nothing here is written to push you towards a trial, no vendor pays for placement, and the ranked tables sort on published prices rather than on anything we are paid.
Frequently asked questions
Is ClickUp cheaper than monday.com?
Yes, at both team sizes this index prices. For 5 people month-to-month it is $50 a month against $60; for 2 it is $20 against $36. Verified August 6, 2026. ClickUp's entry tier also includes Gantt charts, which monday.com's does not.
Does ClickUp have a seat minimum?
No minimum number of seats, but it does state a workspace rule: "To upgrade ClickUp, you'll need to upgrade your entire Workspace, which means all members in your Workspace." That means everyone in the workspace is upgraded and billed together. monday.com's constraint is the opposite shape: "Plans start from 3 users."
Which has the better free plan?
They cap different things, so it depends on which cap you hit. ClickUp states "Unlimited Free Plan Members" and limits storage to 60MB. monday.com's free card reads "Up to 2 seats" with up to three boards and three docs. For a team of more than two, ClickUp's free tier is the only one of the two that still works.
Is monday.com or ClickUp better for Gantt charts?
On price, ClickUp: its entry tier lists "Unlimited Gantt Charts" at $10 per seat month-to-month. monday.com puts "Timeline & Gantt views" on Standard at $14 per seat. Which one produces the better chart is not something a pricing page can tell you, and we have not tested either.
Does ClickUp charge extra for AI?
Yes, separately from the seat. ClickUp runs a second pricing block on the same page for AI, with its own billing toggle and its own per-seat prices, plus consumption-priced AI Super Credits. monday.com bundles an AI credit allowance into each tier and shows it as a line item currently offset by a discount. Neither AI cost is included in the price comparisons on this page.
How we verify this
Every figure on this page was read from the vendor’s own pricing page and is stored with that page’s URL, a verbatim quote, and the date it was checked (most recent: August 6, 2026). 4 of these 8pages render their prices in the browser rather than in the served HTML, so they were read in a browser with each billing option selected in turn. Where a vendor publishes no number, we say so instead of repeating a figure from elsewhere. A blank in the automations or timeline column means the vendor’s pricing page names no such capability, which is a statement about the page and not a claim about the product. Seat floors are applied only where the vendor states one, and only as widely as the vendor states it: a minimum written on a single tier’s card is applied to that tier alone. Totals and percentages are arithmetic on published figures only. See our editorial standards and how we verify.
